Lichthuis started in 1995 with one goal: to do things differently. Light that truly does something to a space and to the people who live or work in it.
That conviction has never left Lichthuis. In thirty years, we have not followed a single trend that does not align with our philosophy. Because once you understand why we do what we do, you don’t come back for anything else.
Every single day, with the same curiosity
My name is Joris Van Olmen, founder and driving force of Lichthuis. I inherited my love for interiors from home. I grew up in my parents’ interior design business, surrounded by materials, custom work, and spaces designed with great attention. There, I learned early on that a good interior is not about individual elements, but about how everything comes together.
With a bachelor’s degree in electronics, I then chose the technical side. Two worlds that come together today in Lichthuis: a feel for interior and architecture, combined with thorough technical knowledge of light.
For me, a good lighting design therefore never starts with a fixture. It starts with the architecture, the interior, and especially with the people who will live or work there. Light must become a natural part of that. This vision forms the basis of Lichthuis today and of every project we realize.
We design light for the people who live in it every day
From the first conversation to the final finish, you work with the same person. No referrals, no changes halfway through. Your lighting architect knows your project inside and out — and remains available until everything is right. Trust, honesty, and a personal approach characterize us.
We work non-commercially, without a hidden agenda, but with the sincere conviction that the best lighting solution is the one that suits you best. Even if that means we sometimes slow you down, adjust your course, or honestly say that something is not necessary.
Light requires years of study, experience, and curiosity to truly master it
At Lichthuis, we combine a deep-seated sense of atmosphere and aesthetics with sound technical knowledge that few others can match. We continue to train annually, experiment in our own light lab, and learn from every project we realize.
Good light is the result of dozens of choices that most people never consciously make. Illuminance determines how much light falls on a surface. Color temperature determines whether light feels warm or cool and has a direct impact on how people feel in a space.
The color rendering index measures how accurately colors are displayed: the higher the value, the more natural everything looks. We work exclusively with high-quality LED technology that meets the strictest quality standards. Not all LED is equal: lifespan, light stability, and dimming behavior vary enormously per product. We know the difference and always choose what performs best in the long term.
Our showroom and lighting studio
Our showroom in Mol is a space where light in all its forms and atmospheres can be experienced.
We show a deliberate selection of lighting brands we sincerely believe in, a carefully curated choice that reflects our philosophy. In addition, there is an extensive presentation of our own custom work: fixtures and lighting solutions that we design and produce in our own workshop.
In our lighting studio, you can experience the effects of different lighting solutions side by side. A visit to the lighting studio is part of every lighting trajectory at Lichthuis.
Complete peace of mind from A to Z
A lighting project at Lichthuis does not stop with a lighting study. We guide you through every step of the process and ensure that at no point are you left alone with a question, a doubt, or a problem.
From the first sketch to the technical file, from site follow-up to installation and final adjustment: everything is followed up by the same team that has known your project from the start. No intervention from parties who do not know your story. No moments where responsibility is unclear.
After installation, a lighting expert drops by for the finishing touch: aiming spots, setting lighting scenes, a final check. Only when everything feels as it should do we close the project.
